ASHRAE, ASHREA DETROIT has installed new officers and directors for 2016-17 at its Annual Meeting.
The new president is Timothy G. Wentz, P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, HBDP, associate professor, University of Nebraska Lincoln. As ASHRAEs president, Wentz chairs the Societys Board of Directors and Executive Committee. His theme, Adapt Today to Shape Tomorrow, is based on the goal in the Societys Strategic Plan to adapt. Wentz relates this goal to his personal history of moving from a slide rule in his early college days to a hand calculator and now a computer or smartphone as an example of the challenges and opportunities inherent in adapting to new technology.More
The Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office will assume full management of the Pontiac Wastewater Treatment facility beginning July 1st as the final step in the transfer of the operation of the city’s water and sewer system from the private contractor, SUEZ, formerly known as United Water. SUEZ had been operating the system under contract since 2011.More

Jim Carter, GLREA Board President, passed away unexpectedly on June 21 at the age of 76. Jim was elected to the Board in 2013 and was elected President in January. Jim was a Michigan attorney and real estate professional who handled contracts, corporate and LLC matters and specialized in renewable energy. He started working with Homeland Solar in 2008 assisting them with financing, regulatory and tax matters. Jim earned his JD and an MBA from the University of Minnesota and resided in Grand Rapids.
Jim was a thoughtful man of exceptional integrity and kindness who lived an active and engaged life, enjoying and making the most of each day. GLREA is thankful for all his contributions in promoting renewable energy and we are deeply saddened by his loss. The picture above shows President Jim and Jimmy Carter and their partners. More
Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director Jamie Clover Adams is leading a trade mission to China November 9-14, 2016, focusing on connecting Michigan food and agriculture companies with Chinese buyers. The delegation will be making stops in Shanghai and Shenzhen. The mission will include one-on-one meetings, retail tours, and briefings with U.S. Department of Agriculture officials. More
