Watch “Detroit Mob Confidential” at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 8 and Sunday October 9 at the Detroit Historical Museum and “Killing Jimmy Hoffa” at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 8 at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. As always, admission to the films and museums is FREE!

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is joining state and national partners to raise awareness of hereditary breast and ovarian cancers (HBOC) this week, September 25-October 1, 2016, proclaimed Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Week by Governor Rick Snyder. Occurring between national awareness months for ovarian cancer in September and breast cancer in October, HBOC Week highlights the connection between hereditary forms of ovarian and breast cancer.

Why are Americans so sick? Who’s responsible for feeding us information about what we eat, is it accurate, and is it possible that by making one key lifestyle change we can heal ourselves…and our world?
Tackling these questions and more is “Eating You Alive,” a new documentary debuting Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Birmingham Seaholm High School. Hosted by Plant Based Nutrition Support Group (PBNSG), the event is one of just a few pre-release screenings taking place in select cities in advance of the film’s wide release to theaters across the country starting in November.

Lawrence Technological University To Host Annual Stormwater Summit
Lawrence Technological University will host the fourth annual Regional Stormwater Summit Friday, Oct. 7 on its Southfield campus.
The summit is a collaboration of Lawrence Tech, the Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office and the nonprofit group Pure Oakland Water (POW).
Topics to be discussed at the summit will include green infrastructure and other best construction practices, evaluation and maintenance of stormwater programs across the Great Lakes region, advocacy and legislative updates, climate change, and regional collaboration.More
