Parents, older adults, and caregivers encouraged to prevent traumatic brain injuries
More than 28 people are hospitalized for a traumatic brain injury (TBI) every day in Michigan; more than one each hour. As March is Traumatic Brain Injury Prevention Awareness Month, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and Brain Injury Association of Michigan (BIAMI) are encouraging residents to take steps to keep themselves and their families safe.
On average, there were more than 10,300 hospitalizations and 1,500 deaths a year between 2010 and 2014 due to a TBI in Michigan, and the majority of these injuries are from falls. Other preventable causes of TBI include being struck by or against an object or person, motor vehicle crashes, and assaults, including abusive head trauma.

The European Union has adopted a General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will take effect in May, 2018. In January 2017, Price Waterhouse Coopers conducted a survey about preparing for the GDPR of 200 General Counsel and C-level executives from U.S. companies with over 500 employees. Regulating Autonomous Vehicles
Senators John Thune (R-SD) and Gary Peters (D-MI) recently announced that they are exploring federal regulations to be proposed this year for self-driving vehicles. These lawmakers’ stated goal was to offer flexibility for manufacturers of autonomous vehicles without impacting safety regulations on conventional cars.

7th annual My Green School Art Contest open for entries!
Now in our 7th year, the USGBC Detroit Region Green Schools Committee invites all children in grades K-5, whether enrolled in public, private or charter school, or home-schooled, to enter our My Green School Art Contest:
Our My Green School Art Contes t for students in grades K-5 is under way!!!!! This year is our 7th year!
INFO: The My Green School Art Contes t began in 2011.The contest encourages K-5 students across Michigan to depict how their school is green or how it could become greener.
- Entries can be from public, private, charter school or home-schooled students.
- Artwork can be mailed or emailed.
- The artwork is reviewed by a panel of judges.
- Awards are given out at the Award Ceremony at the Michigan Earth Day Fest in Rochester on April 21st, 2017 and displayed during the Fest and at the GLREA Energy Fair in Lansing in June.
- Community partners make it possible to give prizes and hold a pizza dinner for the top three artists in each grade level and their parents.
