Due to the recent state and federal transportation revenue packages signed into law, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has extended the timeline for the development of the state long-range transportation plan (SLRP), known as the 2040 MI Transportation Plan. This extension will allow MDOT to assess the impacts and implications of pending policy changes. As MDOT continues to work on the development of the plan, the new adoption date is expected to be July 23, 2016 (previously May 19, 2016).
The 30-day public comment period for the draft SLRP also has been moved, to May 10-June 10, 2016. Public meetings are being scheduled across the state during that time.
On Nov. 10, Gov. Rick Snyder signed into law a $1.2 billion transportation funding package, the first increase in state transportation investment in nearly 20 years, while on Dec. 4, President Obama signed into law the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act), the first long-term federal funding bill for surface transportation in 10 years.
More information on the development of the 2040 MI Transportation Plan can be found at www.michigan.gov/slrp. Draft reports for the plan will be added to the website during the next few months. For questions about the SLRP, contact Bradley Sharlow at 517-373-9057.
