Residents of Farmington will be getting new wheeled recycling carts starting the first week of August. Waste Management will start delivering carts based on the collection schedule so that residents who get their collection service earlier in the week will get their new carts earlier in the month. The carts will be delivered by Waste Management at no cost to the residents.
The new recycling carts can be used on their next collection day following delivery. Once the new carts are delivered, Waste Management will no longer service the older style recycling bins. Residents may keep the bins for storage, or may place the old bin into the new recycling cart to have it recycled.
The wheeled recycling carts will be delivered directly to the curbside at each residence. Carts will feature a listing of acceptable items and the phone number for the Department of Public Services. Arrows indicating the correct alignment will be stamped on each cart to facilitate pickup by the specialized single stream, “no sort” recycling truck. Carts should be placed away from cars, fire hydrants, and trees so they can be easily reached by the automated collection lift device.
Recycling carts are for recycling only; there is no change to the garbage or yard waste collection.
If residents decide they need a smaller (35-gallon) or larger (96-gallon) cart after they have used the standard 64-gallon cart, they may call the DPS at 248-473-7250 to request an alternate size at no cost until October 1. The original cart must be placed in a clearly visible location near the garage. Within one week, Waste Management will then exchange it with the new alternate size cart as requested.
