Organization’s Description
The City of Novi began recognizing the importance of sustainability and energy efficiency in 2007 by adopting the goal that Novi will “Be a community that values natural areas and natural features.”
Since then the City of Novi has implemented energy efficiency retrofits in municipal buildings and developed an energy program to maximize energy efficiency opportunities community-wide. Additionally, “green” pages were added to cityofnovi.org featuring tips for home and business.
A separate site – novigreenenergy.org highlights projects and progress utilizing over $500,000 received from a 2009 federal stimulus fund for energy efficiency projects. Each year the City hosts eco-friendly community events such as Arbor Day, River Day and Earth Day. The annual Household Hazardous Waste Day event, in collaboration with RRRASOC, continues to be a great success.
